Mona Lisa Smiles Notes

Katharine came to Wellsey because she wanted to make a difference. Every young woman knew everything about the art. They seem super bored with the teacher and are totally over achievers. Some are pretty dang rude half way through the first class the girls got up and left. These girls are harsh and hard on their teachers.
So Ms. Watson pulls out some pictures that are not in the textbook. Ms. Watson is making these young woman think for themselves and think outside the box for say. The girls feel that if Katherine is not married and doesn’t have kids then she is not successful.
The young women go to a class that teaches you how to be a wife and how to deal with different situations. Some girls admire Ms. Watson while other girls hate the way she teaches; she wants the girls to form their own opinion.
Katherine doesn’t understand why these girls are gaining so much education just to be a stay at home mom. These girls love to gossip. Some of these young women seem very lady like but really are not. Ms. Watson is pushing the girls to go against the grain to go against what the average person in that area is doing.
Everyone assumes that the girls want to get married it is more expected then what I think all of the woman want. They think that it is their duty that they were born to fulfill. Some of these girls want so badly to change the way they are expected to do things. To change that if they don’t do something a set way, then they should be looked down upon.
Most of the people admire her teaching, but some others really despise the way she is doing things.
I like that her students still have the guts to stand up to her whether it be against her or with her. Whether if it is her way or not!
A lot of the people’s lives at not that they are not all that they are cracked up to be. Lots of husbands cheated and lots of people lie. They all pretend that everything in their life is wonderful and perfect, but the fact is it really isn’t perfect. “Not everything is as it seems.” That is to true, especially in this story.
The young women are finally getting it. They are speaking about the art, stating their true opinions on it. She has inspired these young women to be who they want. What they want to be and to support themselves in whatever they might want to do. She taught her students to “live the world threw her own eyes.”

  1. Good observations! She really had a hard time dealing with the students and faculty at first. I don't think I could've handled all that. Great notes. :-)
